I can help you plan, design and build your data centre in Africa.

I do this by providing consulting services to ensure you build your data centre in the right place, at the right price, with the right team.

Consulting Services

Investing in data centres is a complicated, costly, endeavour. I can help you navigate this with the following services:

  • Market analysis – I can help you analyze the data centre opportunities across Africa. That is, should you enter the market, how you can enter the market and the strategy to take it on.
  • Feasibility studies – I can prepare feasibility studies to expand your data centre footprint, move into new territories or enter new markets.
  • Asset Due diligence – Whether you’re preparing a plant replacement strategy or looking to dispose of some assets, I can thoroughly review your site to ascertain the areas of strength and weakness, and how these can be addressed. This will help you plan future expenditure or in the valuation of your site.

Engineering Design Services

Designing data centres is a complicated process that most businesses don’t do every day. I can carry out the following to help you deliver your data centre:

  • Site selection – When reviewing locations for your new Data Centre, it’s imperative that you know you’re building on a site that meets your current and future demands. I screen sites to look at:
    • Power, data and other utility availability (today and in the future)
    • Local risks and threats to the facility
    • Expansion potential and site constraints
    • Local authority rules and regulations that may constrain your development.
  • Design management – Given the complexity of data centre projects and the number of stakeholders, it can be challenging to deliver your design on schedule and in budget. I’ve delivered the design of numerous data centres and can lead or help you deliver yours – on time and cost effectively.
  • Design reviews – If you have a design team and would like a third party review of the design to ensure it meets your brief, covers all your requirements and is the right solution to your problem, I can do this for you.

About me…

I am a mechanical engineer who has been working in the construction industry for more than 25 years (or too many to count!).

These days my focus is on the management of projects and working with clients at a strategic level.

I’ve worked on data centres for the last 15 years in South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Morrocco, Senegal, Botswana, Ethiopia, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait, with colocation & edge data centre operators, hyperscalers, banks and private equity firms and have a clear understanding of what these stakeholders require in the data centre value chain.

Some of the clients I have worked for:

I also work with the following firms that are in, or looking to enter the data centre space in Africa:

  • Banks.
  • Private equity.
  • Property developers.
  • Universities.

During my career I’ve worked at global consulting firms like Arup, Ramboll, Whitby Bird and Bassett (now an AECOM company). My experience has given me a broad knowledge of large and small firms across diverse geographies.
